It’s not losing it all, if we have each other
In the end it’s all - in the end it’s all that matters
If we take this chance, and it falls to pieces
In the end you’re all - in the end you’re all that matters
How could I say goodbye?
We’ve come too far to turn back now
Who are we without each other?
Too entwined to untangle now
Can’t believe this is the last album I’ll hear from one of my favourite bands. I remember I started listening to them because some high school friends were talking about New Surrender before it came out, and how awesome Never Take Friendship Personal and Cities were. I gave them a shot and wow, Godspeed, The Feel Good Drag, A Day Late, Readyfuels - so many memorable songs.
Then Dark is the Way, Light is the Place dropped, and I knew I had found something amazing. From the driving, dirty riffs in We Owe This To Ourselves to the mellow bassline in Art of War, the bouncing clapbeat of Pray Tell and the haunting lyrics and atmosphere of Closer, it was just the fresh kick in the face that my musical mind needed.
I’ve managed to catch them live 3 times so far - first time at Manning Bar in February 2011, again at the Enmore in September later that year and once more at the Hi-Fi in September last year. All 3 times they’ve put on a phenomenal, emotion-filled show (with some great support acts to boot - Tonight Alive, William Beckett, The Maine) that has left me wanting for more.
We’ll miss you, Anberlin. See you one last time in October here in SF.
